Just Another Day At The Beach
21st Rd @ Lee, just a tiny bit deeper than yesterday. Tiny bit. Crew member here cutting wood for the wall.

If you were wondering, yes, excavators can snap apart asphalt like a MMA fighter eating a Hershey’s bar.

Back at 21st and Lee, end of the day.

What the heck are these? Really. If anyone knows what they are for email me (info at the bottom of the page). It doesn’t look like rebar, but what do I know.

Last section of old asphalt on the site.

Finally, the obligatory wide shot of the entire site.

Oh The inDIGnity!

Accepting the grunts and grinds of heavy machinery interrupting sacred morning tranquility is one thing. But this… a Dallas Cowboys helmet is just too much. To be subjected to such an abject insult, and have to pay for it too. I’m outraged. Outraged I tell ya. Hey… you know why Texas Stadium has Astro-Turf? To prevent Cowboys fans from grazing during half-time.

O.K. back to more mundane construction matters. A few weeks ago I posted a video showing the first piles being driven in on-site. Many pictures followed of the completed temporary retain wall at Fire Station 3 side of the site. Now, for your time wasting pleasure here is video (heavily edited and in elapsed time, of course) of what goes into making the wall. The video is of crew gracefully prepping the land and then installing the wall on the Lee Hwy side of the Koons Garage site. As always, hit the HD and full screen buttons for best viewing (if you have broadband) and happy eyeballs.
Target Practice?
Maybe it’s me, but putting a target up on the Koons Garage site…. Another irony: the pic is a little blurry. Seriously though a couple of crewmen had the honors yesterday of making it all official. Actual construction starts soon.

But not before they finish the sheeting and shoring. Crews proceeded up to Lee and 21st today, digging out the piles dropped in a few weeks ago. The piles on the far end are completed; the near ones set for tomorrow.
