Finally on its own two feet
Last Monday, with all required permits in-hand, the W-T crew began construction of FS3. Let me repeat that for those of you in disbelief: W-T began constuction of FS3. Expected delivery is May 2011. First step was to lower parts of the site by two feet, which is what happened last week.

I returned from vacation and the excavator was gone. So was about, say 24,000 cubic sq. feet of dirt from the south half of the Koons site. Whatever it is, lets say the excavation phase is done. For joy… though I’m saving Beethoveen’s 9th for when the 21st Rd bus stop is moved to its new home… to the east of…21st Rd. I noticed concrete barricades were placed around the garage and FS3 site today so construction must be ready to start. Actually it has in small ways, but that’s another post for another day. For now here are the “final” excavation pictures for the Koons Garage. Enjoy and think back to when you first heard about the notion of a Koons Garage in 2005. Crazy.

If you were wondering about those three beams, it’s not an homage to Stonehenge; it’s just a pipe stem being set:

21st Rd @ Lee, just a tiny bit deeper than yesterday. Tiny bit. Crew member here cutting wood for the wall.

If you were wondering, yes, excavators can snap apart asphalt like a MMA fighter eating a Hershey’s bar.

Back at 21st and Lee, end of the day.

What the heck are these? Really. If anyone knows what they are for email me (info at the bottom of the page). It doesn’t look like rebar, but what do I know.

Last section of old asphalt on the site.

Finally, the obligatory wide shot of the entire site.
