A Walled Garden

I’m so woefully behind on my posts that they are pouring the 1st floor floor today. So lots of catch up to do, which I will do over today and tomorrow.

Today I’ll focus on the completion of the 1st floor walls which was done sometime around September 16. Here is a brief tour from just about every angle. The only angle I didn’t include is looking east on Old Dominion because there really isn’t much to see from that position and the fire station will block much of it from that approach. Pictures below start out on Lee looking east and gradually wander north towards Old Dominion.

Looking Northeast From Lee Hwy:

Looking North From Lee Hwy:

Looking Northwest From Koons Service Dept (Old Dominion Corner):

Looking Southwest on Old Dominion — The Old Dominion Entrance:

Community Briefing for “Phase 2″ Wednesday, Jan 21st

Fire Station 3 Project staff will brief the community on “phase 2″ and answer questions this Wednesday, January 21, at 7:30pm. The briefing will take place upstairs at the current volunteer fire station 3 at the corner of Lee Hwy and Pollard. Enter on Pollard.

This next phase will including sheeting and shoring for the fire station and Koons garage. It is likely to be the most “inconvenient” stage for nearby residents as 21st Rd will become one way (enter only at N. Stafford, exit only at 21st and Lee).

For those that cannot attend the meeting but have specific questions leave it in the comment section or email me at questions (at) firestationinthehole (dot) com and I will ask and post on the blog.

Of course I will post a summary of the briefing as soon after as I can.

Light’s Out

Funny how decade plus old street elements can vanish in broad daylight unnoticed and be forgotten as if they never existed. Construction has only been on for about eight weeks but how many Randolph St. or Lee Hwy residents or cut through artists remember any of this:

1: Water meters moved slightly northward, and in a triangular pattern, to make room for a wheelchair/stroller ramp.

2: Street light removed to make room for storm drain. Light will be moved approx 50 ft west to other side of the Barrington II driveway. Apparently this was a last minute change.

3: 21st Rd Metro Bus stop temporarily moved to other side of Barrington II driveway. The new permanent stop will be in front of the Koons garage. (That will be a happy day!)

4: Storm drain moved approx 15 feet west (to the left).
