…and the fun begins

Here is the latest news:

FS3 contractor, Whiting-Turner received the building permit on April 30, and VDOT Land Use Permit on May 3. With that construction may officially proceed, and has in a small way. Gravel for the entrance was dropped off earlier this week.

The construction trailer will be brought in soon and temporarily placed on the back wall. It will play “musical chairs” of sorts as construction progresses. See the May edition of Sweet and Sour news for more on that detail and more.

Before the building up starts W-T will first dig down 2 additional feet to obtain the final elevation.

In other project news, Koons Toyota added additional landscaping on the Lee Hwy side of the garage including three rose bushes. If they survive it will look nice, but, unfortunately, Koons does not have a stellar track record in the landscaping maintenance department. Keep your fingers crossed. Half the liriope on the 21st Rd. side is already dead.

New Landscaping On Lee Hwy Side:

That’s a Wrap

Last week the exposed concrete facade was painted pretty much bringing an end to the Koons Garage construction. A wood fence was constructed around the electric box on the Koons property and a new chain link fence was installed as railing at the Lee Hwy garage entrance. Chain link is a rather “interesting” material to use. You’d think steel tube railing would be preferred.

As far as the Koons Garage is concerned its all nickle and dime stuff now. I’ll post the garage constuction video whenever it goes into use and the bus stop shelter is installed for completeness.

Time to move on to Fire Station 3 construction ////////////////////////////

Cut & Paste

Curb, gutter, sidewalk installation on the north portion of 21st Rd. started last week and the first section of sidewalk went in yesterday.  Below is a quick photo sequence of the work so far. Also, FYI, I uploaded the interior plans to the “Architectural Drawings” page.
