Holed Up
If it seems like the Koons Garage construction has slowed down a bit, apparently it has thanks to the frigid weather. According to a January 8 County construction update crews are hampered from working full tilt until temps get back up to 40º. Even still, work has been slogging along, especially the brick veneer work. Final county inspection is scheduled for end of the month.
Anyway here’s last week.
The Roof – Primer & Insulation:
Lights – Close Up (21st Rd), Looking East on 21st, & NE on Lee Hwy:
Brick Veneer – Looking East on Old Dominion:
Vent Holes Drilled For Something:
Crane Flies Away (Pt. 2)
If you haven’t seen “Part 1″ it’s here.
I wasn’t around from Dec 5 to Dec 16, so sadly I missed all the festivities of the crane and sheeting & shoring dismantling. Consolation prize is pictures of the crane hole being filled in and weather proofing the underground portion of the walls (perfect timing on that, right). Also a peek at the brick facade. More updates coming this week.
Craniotomy Completed:
Weatherproofing Membrane Attached To Underground Portion of Walls:
Metal Supports Fitted For Stairwell and Closet Roofs:
Brick Facade Work On Western Wall (Old Dominion Portion):
Crane Flies Away
The form work for the Koons garage is now done and so is Cherrydale’s brief landmark crane, visible from the Washington Monument even. Of course a new one will come around soon as the County has awarded the Fire Station 3 construction contract to Whiting-Turner, according to the Washington Business Journal. The 4.49M contract includes the fire station as well as finishing 21st Rd east of the fire station and building the pocket park on 21st Rd. Work is schedule to start in January.
OK, it’s been a while since I’ve updated so I have quite a few pics. I’m going to do in two posts, one today, one tomorrow. Today I’ll focus on progress up until Dec 4. Tomorrow I’ll post construction done from Dec 5th to yesterday — although I wasn’t around to see most of it.
The cement for the last floor section was drying when I last posted.
It dried & rebar installed for the upper section of the southern wall – now just fill with grits:
Looking north – prepping for the last part of the western wall:
(This one won’t be a holy place except maybe when neighbors yell holy crap when car alarms keep going off)
A step further to completing the western wall:
And done:
