Rock & Scroll Is Dead

The skeleton cinder block frame of the west side of the fire station climbed up to near full height last week. It’s  now nearly even with 21st Rd. According to the county’s latest info release steel reinforcement work will start soon meaning a crane will once again mark the Five Points.

If you hate scrolling as much as I do good news. After Monday night’s Braves 9th inning heart attack comeback 4-3 win I couldn’t fall asleep so I used excess adrenaline to find a decent photo viewer. It’s pretty self explanatory. If you want to put it in “slide show” mode click the button at the bottom of the post. There is also a button to view in full screen.  Picture captions are at the bottom of each picture — previously  they have been at the top. Feel free to post yeas or neys in the comments.

One Week Further…

I’ll let the pictures do the talking. If you are not sure what you are looking at check out the official artistic drawings and blueprints. in the “Architectural Drawings” tab above.

Starting off, as usual, on Old Dominion, front of the station. In sequence – SW, straight ahead, SE. For the first time you can really visually appreciate how tightly fit this station is on the lot.

Looking west from the western edge of the Koons Garage: first pic is the eastern side of the main entrance — behind this wall will be reception and storage; second pic is the beginnings of the eastern wall of the entire building.

And finally, the foray onto 21st Rd, the back side of the station.  Two pics: NW and straight down. Right now the station looks most impressive from this birds view perspective.

Cinder To The Block Party

Cinder blocks are starting to take the form of the fire station. I’ll start off from 21st Rd looking down to Old Dominion (back side of the FS3) because that is the best view because of the scaffolding — not much to see from Old Dom because of that. Right now it kind of looks like recovered ancient ruins.

West end of the station-to-be: looking straight-on and wide angle view:

The west side looking slightly NE toward Old Dominion and the on Old Dominion looking SE:

Nothing to see here — looking SW at the edge of the Koons Garage:
